Class of 2005, largest in USJ history

• Lacey Adams will pursue her interests in interior design and fashion at the University of Mississippi.
• Courtney Alvey, who attended Governors School for the Art in Visual Arts and was All-State in basketball two years in a row, will attend Samford University on a basketball scholarship.
• Michael Anton, an honor roll student, will attend Loyola University in New Orleans to study the business of music.
• Will Ayers, who sang the lead in Pirates of Penzance and who is an All-State Honor Choir member and a starting defender on the boys soccer team, will take his drama and vocal talents to Belmont University in Nashville.
• Ryan Barnett will attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville to study business.
• Taylor Bayless, All-Northwest Choir for four years, varsity golf team member for five years, and a regular in USJ theater productions, will attend UT Knoxville.
• Adrianna Beal, a member of the All-Northwest Choir and All-State Women’s Choir and Mrs. Potts in USJ’s Beauty and the Beast, will attend Mercer University on a scholarship.
• J.T. Bell, Leadership University graduate, Eagle Scout, and member of the Mayor’s Youth Council and All-Northwest Choir, will attend UT Knoxville.
• Zach Berkley, All-Region in football, will attend Jackson State Community College before transferring on to Mississippi State.
• Gary Blankenship will study engineering and political science at UT Chattanooga.
• Tia Brown, who transferred to USJ her senior year, plans to attend Presbyterian College.
• Katie Brush, All-State in volleyball and outstanding basketball player, plans to play volleyball at Middle Tennessee State University.
• Eileen Butterfield, who has won several Gold and Silver Keys in the Scholastic National Art Competition, attended Governor’s School for the Arts and plans to pursue her art at the University of Texas in Austin.
• Catherine Caldwell, All-Northwest Tennessee Choir and participant in several USJ theater productions, will major in nursing at Middle Tennessee State.
• Megan Carmichael, honor roll student, will attend UT Martin on a freshman scholarship to study pre-pharmacy.
• Ellen Carrington, Leadership University graduate, member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, and active in USJ theater productions, is attending Union University to double major in pre-pharmacy and vocal performance.
• Carrie Beth Cole, honor roll student, yearbook co-editor, and four-year volleyball player, plans to attend the University of Mississippi.
• Laura Cole, a standout in volleyball, will attend Lambuth University.
• Jon Wesley Conley, All-Region in football, will attend the University of Mississippi.
• Zach Cowden, a member of the varsity soccer team, will attend UT Knoxville.
• Whitney DuVal, a Silver Key award winner in the National Scholastic Art Competition and an AP Scholar, is headed to Rhodes College.
• Natalie Edwards, girls state A-AA champion for golf, senior class vice president, and member of the All-Northwest Choir, will attend Auburn University.
• Robert Egan, a National Merit student who placed 16th in the state in cross country, plans to attend Harvey Mudd University in California.
• Emily English, co-captain of the cheerleading squad and five-year member of the track team, will study pre-pharmacy at Middle Tennessee State.
• Ashley Evans, All-State in cross country two years in a row, Girls State delegate, and member of the All-Northwest Choir, has received a full-scholarship for cross country at Tennessee Tech University.
• Josh Farhat, All-State soccer player and president of the French National Honor Society, plans to major in zoology at Miami University of Ohio with a academic scholarship.
• Jack Findley, All-Region and All-West Tennessee in football, is headed to UT Chattanooga.
• Christie Freeman, honor roll student and a five-year member of the girls golf team that finished fourth in the state, will attend UT Knoxville.
• Hunter Garrett, varsity baseball player and All-Region in football, is talking to colleges about playing baseball.
• Stephanie Gerard, four-year starter on the soccer team, will attend St. Louis University with an academic scholarship.
• Mallory Grisham, member of USJ’s band, Jackson Youth Symphony, and church orchestra, has a scholarship at Union.
• Justin Halvorson, all-star Church League basketball player and one of the lead roles in USJ’s Murder in the House of Horrors, will attend UT Chattonooga.
• Michael Hammond, class valedictorian, National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar, All-State jazz guitarist for two years, and All-State Honor Choir for three years, will pursue math and music at Princeton University.
• Anne Helbig, an exchange student from Germany and on the honor roll, will return to Germany for college.
• Christina Henry, track team member, hospital summer volunteer, and Lower School yearbook co-editor, will study nursing at Tennessee Tech University.
• Carolina Herrera, who came to USJ from Colombia, South America, her sophomore year, an honor roll student, and participant in USJ theater productions, plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
• Lauren Hillam, class essayist, All-State in soccer, National Merit student, AP Scholar, and All-State Honor Choir, will attend Brigham Young University.
• Trey Hinton, AP Scholar and a baseball player, plans to attend Mississippi State University to study biochemistry and molecular biology.
• Jayme Hogan-Yarbro, three-year All-State Honor Choir member, AP Scholar, honor roll student, and the female lead in USJ’s Pirates of Penzance operetta, will pursue her interest in vocal performance at Loyola University in New Orleans.
• Margaret Jaco, Leadership University graduate and 11-year piano player, will attend Tulane University.
• Ben Jeter will attend the University of Tennessee at Martin.
• Sara Beth Johnson, Leadership University graduate, Hugh O’Brien Leadership Award recipient, four-year class officer, and Youth Symphony member, will attend Radford University in Virginia.
• Ryan Judd, SGA president and Bravo the Bruin, the school mascot, was appointed to the the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
• Tiffany Kelly-Hollis, who attended Governors School for Music, participated in many USJ theater and musical productions, and member of the All-State Honor Choir two years in a row, will continue her music and theater interests at Catawba in North Carolina.
• Steven Kilboy, member of the All-Northwest Choir, 2005 Regional Envirothon’s first place team, and cross country team, will attend Mississippi State University with a voice scholarship.
• Sara Kirkland, member of the All-Northwest Choir, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, track team member, and honor roll student, will attend Belmont University.
• Daichi Kuno, a Japanese student, will attend college in Japan.
n Andrew Long, member of USJ’s state champion baseball team and All State Honorable mention in football, will play baseball at Maryville College on a scholarship.
• Jay McLemore, four-year track team member and a member of USJ’s state envirothon team, is planning to attend Mississippi State University.
• Kieran McMahon, honor roll student, midfield starter on the soccer team, and Boy’s State delegate, will attend Georgia Tech.
• Jesse McVay, Leadership University graduate, member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, and co-editor of the yearbook, plans to attend Union University to study nursing.
• Cayla Mesecher plans to study pre-medicine at the University of Kentucky.
• Jessie Metcalf, All-State soccer player for three years, basketball team member, and honor roll student, will continue her soccer career at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
• Kenichi Mochizuki, math award winner and honor roll student, will attend UT Martin.
• Bradley Norville, a starter on the baseball team, will attend UT Martin.
• Amy Page, AP scholar with honors and three-year starting point guard on the basketball team, is headed to UT Knoxville on an academic scholarship.
• John Pappis, All-State in football, plans to play football at Campbellsville University in Kentucky.
• Josh Paschall, All-Northwest and All-State Honor Choir member who played Gaston in USJ’s Beauty and the Beast, will attend UT Chattanooga.
• Namrata Patel, a top tennis player on USJ’s team, president of the National Honor Society, AP Scholar, and who attended Governors School for the Humanities, will attend Emory University and play tennis there.
• Neelam Patel, an honor roll student and president of SADD, will be attending East Carolina State University.
• Nisha Patel, president of the International Club and co-editor of the Lower School yearbook, will go to UT Chattanooga to major in educational philosophy.
• Brian Petty, starter on the baseball team and honor roll student, will attend UT Knoxville.
• Jordan Phillips, SGA vice president, member of the Madison County Teen Court and Mayor’s Youth Council, and Leadership University graduate, plans on pursuing her interest in architecture at Louisiana State University or Savannah School of Art and Design.
• Thomas Poux, who is from France, will attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
• Anna Powell, an honor roll student, plans to major in Spanish at Middle Tennessee State University.
• Sarah Priddy, French Club president and yearbook copy editor, will attend UT Knoxville.
• Sarah Purcell, who dances as an advanced placement member of Ballet Memphis’ Junior Company, will attend the American Repertory Ballet’s Princeton (University) Ballet School this summer, and this fall will study ballet at the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts in Torrington, Ct., and dance with the Nutmeg Ballet.
• Franklin Raines, honor roll student and captain of the tennis team, will attend UT Knoxville to study engineering.
• Caroline Reed, Leadership University graduate, member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, AP Scholar, and five-year soccer midfielder, will attend Tulane University with an academic scholarship.
• Molly Reeves, National Merit finalist and AP Scholar, will study pre-veterinary medicine with a scholarship to Mississippi State University.
• Park Roach, a baseball player, has an academic scholarship to attend the University of Mississippi.
• Ryan Ross, All-State in football and baseball, is being recruited by Division I and NAIA schools to play baseball and football.
• Jennifer Russo, president of the Philosophy Club, member of last year’s Regional Envirothon first place team, and an excellent art student, plans to attend Maryville College.
• Tyler Smallwood, AP Scholar and honor roll student, will attend Tulane University to study biology and Spanish.
• Randi Smith, an AP Scholar who attended Governors School for the Arts in Visual Arts and plans to study in France this summer, will attend Carnegie Melon in Pittsburgh to study architecture.
• Terri Lynn Surratt, who gave up her eligibility to play volleyball and basketball to return to USJ her senior year, plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University.
• Stephen Thomas, a member of the cross country team, will attend Union University.
• Courtney Underwood, co-captain of the cheerleading squad and honor roll student, will attend Middle Tennessee State University to study journalism.
• Tina Vaksdal, an exchange student from Norway who played USJ soccer and softball, will go to college in Norway.
• Will Wallace, varsity baseball player for five years and football player for four years, received an appointment at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he will play both baseball and football.
• Kristin Wheeler, National Merit student, AP Scholar, and who attended Governors School for the Humanities, will go to Rhodes College with an academic scholarship to double major in biology and Spanish.
• Kennedy White, member of USJ’s state champion baseball team, returned to USJ his senior year and will attend the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith on a baseball scholarship.
• Tyler White, Fellowship of Christian Athletes president and member of the football team, will attend UT Chattanooga.
• Jess Williams, member of USJ’s state envirothon team, plans to attend UT Knoxville.
• Sallie Williamson, a hospital volunteer each Sunday and a member of USJ’s state runner-up doubles tennis team, studied at Cambridge University in England last summer and will attend Boston University.
• Katie Wilson, Girls State delegate and member of the cross country and track teams, plans to study pre-pharmacy at Mississippi College.
• Jonathan Wright, a member of the All-Northwest Choir and the cross country team, will attend Mississippi State University with a voice scholarship.
• Landon Wright, Film Club president and cross country team member, plays in his own band and will pursue a major in the music industry at Middle Tennessee State University.
• Heather Wyatt, an honor roll student and active in USJ’s band program, plans on attending Lambuth University.
• Natalie Wyatt, who transferred to USJ for her senior year, will attend UT Knoxville to major in retail and consumer science.
• Drew Yancey, All-State in football and a starter on the basketball team, will attend Jackson State Community College.
