As USJ grows and secures its future, it must depend on the generosity of parents, alumni, grandparents and other friends of the school. Restricted and unrestricted giving opportunities abound at USJ. To find out more about giving at USJ, contact Karen Skelton, development coordinator at 664-0812, ext 21, or kskelton@usjbruins.org. USJ is a 501 (c)3, non-profit educational institution.
Annual Fund
Annual giving is the foundation of all giving at USJ. The Annual Fund, a part of the school’s annual budget, funds supplies, materials, teacher training, faculty and staff benefits, and other special projects. Gifts restricted to specific projects are accepted, but the greatest need is for unrestricted gifts that allow the Headmaster and Board to respond in a timely manner to the changing needs of the school. Here's more on the NO LIMITS Annual Fund.
Capital Funds
Nearly three years after completing the new McClellan Road campus, USJs Middle and Upper School facilities are regarded as some of the best in West Tennessee. These buildings would not have been possible without the many generous donors who supported USJ through the 1997-1999 Campaign for Excellence. Total costs, however, exceeded the money raised during the campaign. To eliminate this debt, USJ will gladly accept additional gifts to the campaign. Naming opportunities still exist as well. Donors also can help the school by paying outstanding pledges promptly.
Endowment Funds
Gifts to the endowment fund help to ensure the future of USJ. An endowment fund is an asset with which the principal is never spent, but the interest earned from the investment of the fund supports school activities. Currently, four endowment funds are in place at USJ: the endowment fund for the operating budget, endowment fund for faculty enhancement, endowment fund for building and grounds, and the endowment fund for financial aid. A donor also may name a fund and designate its use.
Memorial Funds
Gifts also may be made in memory of a deceased relative, classmate or teacher and can be designated for annual giving, endowment, or special funds. Gifts also may be made in honor of living faculty, students, or alumni.
Special Funds
Special funds at USJ include the library fund, the birthday book fund, and the technology fund. Gifts to these funds provide extra funding to the budget for the specified area of interest. Periodically, special projects, such as a capital improvement, arise that provide an opportunity for support. A complete list of funds is available from the USJ Development Office.
