USJ Choral Teacher to Lead Tennessee Music Education Association

Dian Eddleman has been elected as the president-elect of the Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA).

She will assume the position of President of TMEA on July 1, 2012 — a position she will hold for two years before her continuation as TMEA officer for another two years as Immediate Past President.

Eddleman has been teaching school music in public and independent schools for more than 25 years. She holds a B.A. from Harding University with post-graduate work at the University of Memphis and the Juilliard School. She has held numerous key leadership roles on the regional and state level. She has served as Chair of the District Northwest Honor Choir and Solo-Ensemble for multiple years, as a member of the West Tennessee Vocal Music Education Association Board of Directors, Tennessee Music Education Association Board of Directors, and as TMEA All-State Ensemble Chair for many years. She is the TMEA Choral Commission Chair and has secured financial sponsorship for TMEA commissions both instrumental and choral.

Eddleman has presented clinics on various aspects of early childhood music and secondary choral music and has served as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor at many choral festivals. Her honors and memberships include being selected a Governor’s School for the Arts Outstanding Teacher and her nomination for “Teacher of the Year” of the Jackson-Madison County Schools.

“We are indeed fortunate that our association has elected one of the state’s most outstanding leaders in music education to take over the leadership of the 1,700+ members of the Tennessee Music Education Association,” said F. Michael Combs, TMEA’s secretary-treasurer. “Dian Eddleman’s new state-wide leadership will give her the opportunity to have an even greater positive influence on Tennessee music students and their teachers.”
