Hayley Haynes

Junior Kindergarten

After teaching three years in public schools, Hayley Haynes came to USJ to teach. She has been at USJ for eleven years and currently teaches junior kindergarten. She received her bachelor degree from Lambuth University in Science/Psychology and her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Freed-Hardman University.

Mrs. Hayley's philosophy is that “happy children will be eager to learn.”  To encourage her students to learn, she teaches with an “uplifting attitude” and uses “positive classroom discipline.”

"I also try to teach skills in a variety of ways. For example, I will use manipulatives (hands-on learning) and give individualized attention as much as possible. I believe that every child is intelligent and valuable."

She says, “My job as an educator is to reach every child and show them how to use their talents in a classroom setting.”

In her free time, Mrs. Hayley tries to read a new book every week. Her daughter is a student at USJ.  She enjoys working at USJ because it is rewarding to see how much her students change at their age. She lives in Brownsville. "My daughter and I commute here every day because we believe USJ is a special place!"

Karen Harris

Karen Harris is Hayley Haynes's Junior Kindergarten Assistant.

She has been at USJ for four years as a teacher assistant. She holds an associate degree and is in the process of receiving her child development associate degree. She spent two years assisting with kindergarten, and is now assisting the cubs.

“Our children have the opportunity to learn and to play and to become socialized,” Mrs. Harris said. “I am here to nurture our children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.”

Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, Mark Carson and Chase, both of whom attend USJ. “I have a great compassion for children and others. I am very family oriented and have lots of friends.” She also loves to garden in the spring and summer, travel and exercise.

“I like everything about teaching at USJ,” Mrs. Harris said. “Our headmaster, director and board all make USJ a great place to be.”
