Veronica Kurth

Lower School Spanish, French, German

Veronica Kurth has been at USJ for 15 years. She teaches Spanish for second grade, Spanish and French for grades 3-5 and German as part of the fifth grade Passport program.  She has a doctorate in jurisprudence, an MBA, and a bachelors degree in Linguistic and Romanistic with an emphasis in French, Italian, and German.

She is a member of the Tennessee Foreign Language Teachers Association. As an educator, she has taught Spanish, French, and German at all levels.

In her classroom, Dr. Kurth integrates language and culture with reading, geography, history, music, art, and other disciplines. Her classes begin with a conversation in the target language. She uses the Total Physical Response approach so students recognize and use basic commands and develop understanding of the new vocabulary.

She enjoys traveling, learning about other cultures, meeting new people, and enjoying her husband and four children. Three of her children, Alex, Christian, and Stephanie, are USJ graduates and are in college. Her youngest son, Nicholas, is in 8th grade at USJ.

She has lived in four different countries and each of her four children was born in one of those countries.  She has a dual nationality: Ecuadorian and American.

"USJ offers a challenging academic curriculum," Dr. Kurth says. "Teachers work together to create a nurturing environment."
