Star Mansfield
Cubs
Star Mansfield, who has 17 years of experience in early childhood education, has been at USJ for 11 years. She was owner and director of her own preschool center for five years. This year, she is teaching USJ's youngest students, the Cubs.
Mrs. Mansfield is a member of the Southern Early Childhood Association; and the Association for Early Childhood International. Her teaching credential as a Child Development Associate (in early childhood) was awarded through the National Credentialing Program of Professional Recognition from Washington, D.C. Mrs. Mansfield has her early childhood teaching certificate through the Tennessee Board of Regents.
Her teaching philosophy includes using a “developmentally appropriate practice based on age and stage of development for each individual child.”
She believes in having an open door policy in her classroom and welcomes calls, emails, and visits from her parents.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband, Blake, have four children: Brent, 22, goes to law school at Mississippi College; April, 20, goes to UTK; Katie, 16, goes to USJ; and Grant, 15, goes to USJ.
She likes teaching at USJ because of the professional atmosphere, excellent students, and parental support.

Jennifer McCormick
Jennifer McCormick is Star Mansfield's Bruin Cubs Assistant. Jennifer, who is new to USJ this year, has a B.S. in Elementary Education with an emphasis on reading and social science from Murray State University. She has taught for three years. Her experience includes teaching first grade at an independent school in Illinois and teaching kindergarten at a public school in Kentucky. Jennifer says she believes "that every child can learn with high expectations and enthusiasm."
