Marcia Moss

Seventh Grade Life Science, Study Hall

A USJ teacher for 20 years, Marcia Moss teaches seventh grade life science (biology). In her 23 years as a teacher, she has taught several subjects (anatomy and physiology, keyboarding, biology, physical science, general science, health, math, and English) across grades sixth through 12th.

Mrs. Moss has a bachelor of science in biology and general science from Lambuth University, and more than 30 hours post-graduate in biology, math, and education from Union University, Freed-Hardeman University, and the University of Memphis. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association.

Her hope for her students is that “not only will they learn the science in the textbook, but they will be more aware of the diversity of life around them – and they will leave a better student than when they arrived in seventh grade science. Besides teaching science to my students, I try to instill an enthusiasm for learning and research."

"My classroom," she says, "is quiet, orderly, and students are required to use good manners. Questions, comments, and suggestions from students are encouraged. Students are held to high, but fair, standards."

Her favorite interests outside of the classroom include spending time with her children and grandchildren, listening to music, reading, fishing, and gardening. All four of her children – Billy, Meredith, Kate, and Murray – are USJ graduates. She has a son-in-law, who also is a USJ alum, and a grandchild at USJ.

She likes teaching at USJ because "it puts an emphasis on behavior as well as high academic standards." The school is quiet, orderly, and safe, she says, and she is surrounded by outstanding colleagues and administration.
