Scott Phillipps

Upper School Director

Dr. Scott Phillipps, Upper School Director, has taken on the duties of Athletic Director this year. Scott also is teaching an economics course during the second semester.

Scott has a bachelor of arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, a master’s degree from Georgia State University, and a doctor of education degree from the University of West Georgia.

Most of his career has been at the Walker School, an independent PreK through 12th grade school in Atlanta, with about 1,100 students. Scott has served at the Walker School as academic dean, dean of students, college advisor, history teacher, and coach of wrestling, football, cross country, and tennis. Among the courses he taught at Walker were AP Economics and AP Government.

Scott and his wife, Shelly, have three children: Brooke, who is in third grade at USJ; Braden, who is in first grade at USJ; and David, who is two and a member of USJ's first Junior Cubs class. Shelly, a Latin teacher, was named Teacher of the Year for her school system in Georgia. This year she is teaching Latin at Central High School in Memphis, which is the Memphis School System's academic magnet school.
