Tony Shutes has 21 years of teaching experience at USJ. He has been Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach for 18 years. He was also the Youth Sports Director at the YMCA for four years.
 
Tony has a bachelor of science degree in physical education from Union University. He is a member of the Tennessee Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association. He has taken the girls basketball team to the State Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 10 times with four Final Four appearances and State Runner-Up in 2005.
 
His teaching philosophy is simple…”to have fun, be nice, and do your best”.
