Lower School Art

Kay Thomson teaches art to grades second through fifth.

Mrs. Thomson received her bachelor of arts in art education from the University of Tennessee, and has done additional graduate work at Florida State University. She holds a masters in education from Union University. An educator for 23 years, she has been at USJ for 11 years.

Mrs. Thomson won the Outstanding Elementary Art Teacher Award for 2007 from the Tennessee Art Education Association. In 2001, she was named Outstanding Teacher at Governor's School in Murfreesboro.

Her teaching philosophy, she says, was once said by Picasso, “Every child is an artist.” She wants to find something that every child can do well.

Mrs. Thomson most enjoys the support received from staff, parents, and students at USJ.
