Welcome to University School of Jackson, West Tennessee’s college preparatory school. We appreciate your interest in University School and invite you to visit all areas of our website to learn about the students and faculty, programs, and character of USJ.

Our mission statement, which we regard as key to the lifetime success of our students, “seeks to instill a passion for academic excellence and life-long learning so each student will reach his or her maximum potential.”

The mission is implemented through the values adopted as the cornerstones of the USJ learning experience:  integrity, honesty, respect, responsibility, and excellence.

Within a warm and collegial atmosphere, USJ students learn from an academically well-trained, dedicated faculty and staff who provide a broad range of options in academics, athletics, and fine arts. Our goal is for students to leave USJ with confidence, prepared to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

The school is a member of the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, the Educational Records Bureau, the College Board, the Tennessee Library Association, the American Library Association, the Tennessee Association for the Gifted, Tennessee Teachers of Foreign Languages, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Jackson Arts Council, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
