Scholarship Opportunities

  • FMY Orthodontists will award a total of $2,000 in college scholarships with a division between 1 to 3 high school seniors. The applicant must meet the following criteria to qualify: Must be currently or have been an Orthodontic patient of FMY Orthodontics under the care of Dr. Dan Merwin, Dr. Preston Miller, Dr. Woody Forbes, or Dr. James Youmans. Student must maintain a B average during senior year and must maintain above average attendance during his/her junior and senior years. Student must perform and document ongoing community service (a minimum of 12 hours)during senior year. Student must be accepted for full time enrollment to attend: an accredited junior or community college OR an accredited four year college or university. The Scholarship Committee will consider academic achievement, financial need, letter of recommendation from your guidance counselor, and statement of education goals and career objectives. Please see Mrs. Whisenant in the College Advsing Office for information regarding the materials you must submit. Submission deadline is April 8, 2010.
  • Cancer Care Center 2010 Scholarship - Scholarships will be awarded based on the student's answer to a short answer question about how cancer has affected their life. The Cancer Care Center will be awarding a total of ten $500 scholarships for students throughout West Tennessee which will be broken down as follows: 2 in Jackson-Madison County, 2 in Dyersburg-Dyer County, 2 in Paris-Henry County, 2 in Union City-Obion County and 2 at large(West Tennessee in general). Requirements are as follows: Scholarship available to high school seniors. Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT score of 19. Student must be planning to attend an accredited junior college, college or university. A signed high school transcript must accompany application form. Essay must be typed. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. All applications must be postmarked by March 19, 2010 to be considered. For an application, please see Mrs. Whisenant in the College Advising Office.   • 2009/2010 Jackson Exchange Club Scholarship Application is available in College Advising Office. To be considered, you must attend in the Fall of 2010 a college or university located in Madison County. Financial need is a determining factor and verification of your household's income such as the prior year's tax return must be attached to the application. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 payable to the college or university during your freshman year. To be considered, your application must be received by April 30,2010. Please see Mrs. Whisenant in the College Advsing Office for an application.
  • First Presbyterian Church Science Scholar Award offers financial help to students entering college that meet the following qualifications: an ACT score of 25 or above, intent to pursue a major in science or engineering, proof of financial need, including the family's EFC (a gap of $1,000 or more in potential aid v. the cost of the college the student wants to attend). Applications must be received by March 30, 2010. Come by the College Advising Office to pick up an application.
  • Tennessee Marine Family's Tennessee Fallen Heroes College Scholarship Fund - $1,000 Scholarship awarded to a selected graduating senior who meets certain criteria including academic achievement, community involvement, leadership, etc. Must plan to attend a Tennessee school.   • The Horatio Alger Association annually awards more than $12 million in college scholarships and grants.
