Hispanic-Flamenco Show entertains Lower School students
USJ sponsored a Hispanic-Flamenco show on Thursday, March 5, for students in grades 2-5 as part of the school’s efforts to build enthusiasm and awareness of the importance of foreign languages and cultures.
“This was a great opportunity to enrich the foreign language and culture exposure to our students,” says Lower School foreign language teacher Veronica Kurth. “They were able to appreciate the variety of Hispanic-American songs and dances from the Caribbean, Mexico, and South America as they were transported through music, dances, and typical costumes to a wide range of Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.”
Students especially enjoyed the spectacular presentation of "capoeira" from Brazil and "boleadoras" from Argentina. “It was a class by itself, with unique costumes and music,” Kurth said. “The show brought variety, color and richness to our school and promoted understanding and appreciation of other cultures. It definitely helped our students appreciate the diversity of the Spanish culture. Olé!"
