A winning poem
Shivam Sofat’s poem “Save Water”, received second prize in Division I of the 2010 city-wide poetry contest sponsored by The Jackson Woman’s Club. Shivam, a second grader in Linda Yates’s class, was awarded a $50 savings bond. Contestants were divided into four divisions, based on their school grade, and their poems had to be between eight and 30 lines. Above, Shivam stands with Sylvia Bell, Beth Hudson, and Debbie Ford. Shivam's poem is below.
SAVE WATER
Earth is made of water,
only planet to have water.
Our body is made of water,
all food is made of water.
To live we need water,
animals, plants and trees need water.
Now, water is in danger.
If water is in danger,
Earth is in danger,
our lives are in danger,
all are in danger.
We need to save water,
to save our planet - save water,
to save our lives - save water,
to save all - save water.
Earth gets life from water,
all get life from water.
To save Earth,
give life to water.
To save life on Earth,
give life to water.
