All the Way to State

The Girls Varsity Basketball team finished its winter 2004-2005 season as runners-up to the state championship. This is the best the team has finished in its history. The girls beat the defending state champion, Clarkrange, in the semi-finals, 58-55. They lost to Trenton Peabody in the state finals, 62-51. Named to the state All-Tournament team were seniors Courtney Alvey and Katie Brush and sophomore Becca Morris. Courtney and Becca also were named to the All-State team.

The 2005 Varsity Girls Basketball Team was runner-up to the state championship.

Athletic Director Bob Wood, Seniors Katie Brush and Jessie Metcalf, Coach Tony Shutes, Seniors Amy Page and Courtney Alvey, and Assistant Coaches Cynthia Thomson and Christie Golden stand with the recognition plaque the team received from the Tennessee Legislature.

Mr. Basketball

Congratulations to John Ross Glover, who was named a Finalist in the Mr. Basketball Competition in Division II, Class A for the State of Tennessee.

All-State

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association named both John Ross Glover and E.J. Miller to its 2010 All-State team for Division II Basketball.

Congratulations to Halie Miller, Class of 2010, who signed to play basketball at Bethel University.

Blue Streak Invitational

USJ students competed in the Blue Streak Invitational Basketball Tournament in Memphis during Christmas break. More than 90 teams entered the 4th Annual Tournament, which was sponsored by the Memphis Catholic schools.

USJ Middle School girls placed third by defeating Harding Academy in the Consolation game. A team of USJ 5th graders played up in the 6th grade division and finished 2nd in their division. Known as the Lady Sparks, the fifth grade team beat St. George 23-21 and St Agnes 23-16, and lost in championship to St Francis 21-17.

Anna Jones and Abbey Fleming were named to the All-Tournament Team for the sixth grade division. Haley Hall made the All-Tournament team of six players for Middle School.
