Freshmen Shelby and Honeye also made the Tennessee 94 Olympic Development Program team and eighth grader Christophe Nabhan made the Tennessee 96 Olympic Development Program team. Information about the ODP program can be find at: www.tnsoccer.org. Though this is not the first time USJ had students make the development teams, it is rare for a school the size of USJ to have three players selected, said Coach Chris Leonardi. “It is a great accomplishment to have two players to represent Tennessee out of 18 in the State of Tennessee for the 94 girls.”

Junior named to Olympic development team

A University School of Jackson junior, Shelby Jordan, may be looking at gold in her future. Jordan has been selected to the United States Youth Soccer Region III Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) U17 Girls team. As a member of the developmental team, Jordan will be invited to attend numerous national camps and inter-regional events throughout the year at various locations in the United States. The U.S. national team coach or a national staff coach is present at these events to observe, train, and identify players for placement in the national pool or on a national team.

Jordan is a member of the USJ girls Upper School soccer team and of the 94 Lady LOBOS Blue, a Collierville competitive club soccer team. Her selection into the developmental program follows a year-long comprehensive try out and evaluation process that culminated with an invitation to attend a Region Camp.

Close to 400 girls competed for one of the 36 spots on the Region III team, which represents an 11-state area. Only the top players from each state are invited to the camp designed to provide high-level competition and training for participating players. During this training and competition, players who are capable of performing at a higher level of play are identified for possible U.S. national team camp, pool or team participation.

U.S. Youth Soccer is the nation's largest youth sports organization.
