Varsity Softball Scores and Schedule

2010 Varsity Season: State Champions

Congratulations to the Varsity Softball Team for winning the state championship in Division II-A. USJ defeated Davidson Academy 9-1 in Championship Game No. 2 to take the state title. The girls ended their season 35-5 (See season).  Lauren Riddell pitched the final game and got the win. Taylor Barclay pitched the other three games during the tournament and won two of them.  In the final game, Taylor hit two homeruns, and Katie Beth Fesmire and Lauren Riddell also hit homeruns. Taylor was named the Division II-A State Softball Most Valuable Player. On its road to state, the team captured both the Regional and District championships. This is the first state championship for USJ softball!

Taylor Barclay, Katie Beth Fesmire, Kasey Fleming, and Lauren Riddell were selected to the Jackson Sun's All West Tennessee Softball first team. Stephanie Shackelford was named to the All West Tennessee second team.

All-District recognition went to MVP Katie Beth Fesmire, Taylor Barclay, Lauren Riddell, Stephanie Shackelford, Kasey Fleming and Ally Glover.
 
All-Region Tournament Team members were MVP Taylor Barclay, Katie Beth Fesmire, Lauren Riddell and Stephanie Shackelford.

Members of the team are Brittany Spicer, Kaleigh Davis, Stephanie Shackelford, Kaylie Wehner, Katie Exum, Haley Hall, Ally Glover, Lauren Riddell, Bess McWherter, Taylor Barclay, Katie Beth Fesmire, and Kasey Fleming. Head Coach is Brian Dunn; Assistant Coaches are Rick Shackelford and Ken Riddell.

2009 Varsity Spring Season

Katie Beth Fesmire and Lauren Riddell were named to the Jackson Sun's All-West Tennessee softball first team, while Taylor Barclay was named to the All-West Tennessee second team.

The Lady Bruins Softball team finished its Regular Season as District Championship and as Tournament Runner-Ups.  Named to the All-District 14AA team were Lauren Riddell, Katie Beth Fesmire, Taylor Barclay, Kasey Fleming and Stephanie Shackelford. Lauren Riddell, Katie Beth Fesmire, and Taylor Barclay were also named to the All-Tournament team.

Softball team does well

The Middle School softball team won the West Tennessee Middle School Softball Championship this fall. The girls also won the Tipton Blast-off Tourney and the Trinity Middle School Classic.

The team, with an overall record of 25-1, outscored its opponents 183-15. In the championship series, the team finished with a perfect 5-0, outscoring opponents 41-0. West Tennessee Championship MVP was Lauren Riddell. Making the All-Tournament team were Ally Glover, Haley Hall, and Amanda Bond.

Also on the team were Eliza Edwards, Kaylie Wehner, Katie Exum, Bailey Brittain, Tori Hockaday, Rachel Giampapa, Molly Hall, Shelby Spurgeon, and Samantha Sullivan. Coaches were Brian Dunn, Ken Riddell, and Jay Hall.



2008 Varsity Spring Season

All-District 14-AA award winners were Taylor Barclay, Katie Beth Fesmire, Stephanie Shackelford, Bess McWherter, and Kasey Fleming.
 
Named to the All-District Tournament team were Taylor Barclay and Katie Beth Fesmire.
 

2007 Varsity Spring Season

All-District awards went to Becca Morris, Megan Latimer, Katie Beth Fesmire, and Katie Harper.

All-Tournament awards went to Megan Latimer and Morgan Hancock.

Varsity 2005 softball

A successful season ended in the regional semi-finals, when USJ lost to Huntingdon, 3-2.

Spring 2004 Varsity Season

The varsity softball team won the district with an 8-5 win over Trinity. The girls won the first game in the region tournament with an 3-1 win over Bruceton. The team, however, did not advance from the Region Tournament.

2003 Varsity Season

The 2003 season was the best ever for the girls' softball team. For the second time, the team won the privilege to play in the state tournament and came home third in the state. The team's first trip to the state tournament was in 2000 when sophomore Elizabeth Carls pitched the team to district victory and to the state championship.
