The Bruins Club’s main purpose is to support the athletic programs at USJ, both through volunteer support and financial assistance, as needed. Our purpose is to provide supplemental funding not covered by the general budget. The Bruins Club also participates in funding projects requested by the athletics committee.
The Bruins Club generates its funding through the annual Super Booster campaign, concession income, and special events, such as program ads, tournaments, and stadium sponsor signs.
The only requirement for membership in the Bruins Club is to be a supporter of USJ athletics programs. Any parent, alumni, or faculty member interested in helping is encouraged to attend the Bruins Club meetings. Our regular meetings are at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month, usually in the Upper School library.
The Bruins Club is committed to all USJ athletic programs, dedicating funds to a variety of capital improvement projects over the past few years. Major contributions have been made to the building fund, soccer program, baseball program, and the track and tennis programs. We also contribute to the annual budget and help with special projects, as needed.
During 2007-2008 budget year, we assisted volleyball with equipment, helped fund the cheerleaders attendance at a national competition, and made special contributions to soccer and baseball to make their facilities ready to use. A major expense was the cleaning and disinfecting of all USJ locker and weight room facilities to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. As part of this effort, coaches and staff received training to help keep the risk of infections low.
During the 2008-2009 year, projects planned are to add a new football scoreboard with funding supported by ad sales, to assist in the hosting of a youth basketball tournament, and to prepare to host the 2009 jamboree, as well as many other projects. Each family is urged to participate as a SuperBooster, as well as assisting in concessions stands and other special projects. It is this kind of support that helps our athletic programs, while keeping tuition costs as low as possible.
