Summer Camps & Classes

Looking for activities for your child this summer? Check out this list of camps and classes offered at University School of Jackson. Our programs fall into four main categories: life skills, academic, fine arts, and sports. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, with registration unofficial until the registration form and deposit are received.

Download the attached registration form in pdf format, print it off, fill it out, and send it in with your deposit of $25 or the full camp fee. Send your registration to Dr. Red Prudhon, Upper School Director, 232 McClellan Rd., Jackson, TN 38305. (Driver's Ed has a separate registration form; see below.)

A nonrefundable $25 deposit and registration form for each camp and/or class are preferred by May 31. Checks are payable to USJ. For more information, contact the Upper School Office at 660-1447. Registration forms also are available at the Upper School office.

Life Skills

Driver’s Ed, June 16-20, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., $315, Instructor: John Herriman (A certified course which includes thirty hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Fine Arts

Look What I Made, June 23-27, 10-11:30 a.m., current grades K-4, $100, Instructor: Mary Rassier (Learn how to make easy and fun crafts to keep or give as gifts.) Lower School Art Room
Art Camp, (two different sessions) July 7-11, 10:30-noon or 12:30-2 p.m., rising grades 2-6, $100, Instructor: Kay Thomson (Art activities in clay, painting, drawing, crafts, tie-dying and more.) Grades 2-5 Art Classroom
Musical Theater Camp, July 21-22, July 24-26, and July 28-29 (seven days), 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., rising grades 1-8, $160, Blankenship Theater, Instructor: Dr. Tammy Grant (Students will practice and perform a Broadway Junior Musical)

Sports Camps

Softball: May 27-29, 2-5 pm, rising grades 2-6, US Softball Field, $70, Instructor: Coach Brian Dunn (Fundamentals, rules, and techniques of softball.)

• Soccer: Boys and Girls, June 2-6, 9 a.m.-noon for rising grades 1-7, and 5-8 p.m. for rising grades 8-12, $115, Upper School, Instructor: Coach Chris Leonardi (Camp emphasizes soccer skills and fundamentals including dribbling, passing, shooting, trapping, and defensive play, with small side games daily.)

Girls Basketball: June 9-12, 9 a.m.-noon, rising grades 1-8, $90, Instructor: Tony Shutes and staff (Emphasis on ball handling, shooting, agility, defense and basketball fundamentals.)

Tennis: Boys and Girls: June 9-13, 8:30-10 a.m., rising grades 2-5, 10:15 - 11:45 am, rising grades 6-9, US Tennis Courts, $90, Instructor: Don Newman (Drills, strategies and match play for novice to intermediate players.)

Football: July 7-10, 9-11 a.m. for rising grades 1-6; and 1-3 p.m. for rising grades 7-8, $95, US Football Field, Instructor: Coach Mickey Marley and staff. (This non-contact camp is designed for young men interested in learning the fundamentals of foootball. Players will be taught skills that are applicable for youth league, middle school, and high school.)

Volleyball: July 17-18, 4:30-6:30 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m., July 19, 8 a.m. - noon, rising grades 2-6, US Dement Gym, $90, Instructor: Coach Phyllis Anyango (Drills, strategies and fundamentals of volleyball.)

Cheerleading Camp: June 16-19, 9-10:30 a.m., rising grades 1-3, 10:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., rising grades 4-6, $80, Instructors: Adair Hardegree and Robert Farmer

Camp Invention

Camp Invention, an exciting week-long experience for children entering Grades 1-6, will be July 14-18 at USJ’s Lower School. A summer program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation, the camp is designed to inspire creativity through hands-on activities and fun! Each day, children participate in five inventive modules that include…
• Saving Sludge City: Sludge City has been polluted and it's up to campers to rebuild a cleaner, more eco-friendly city.
• Art Park: Campers design a new sculpture garden for Art Park.
• M.A.R.S. (Moving at Rocket Speed): Campers will organize a trip to Mars, from liftoff to final return, as well as planning and preparing the supplies needed for the trip.
• Recess Remix: Combine physical activity with creative ways to solve problems.
• I Can Invent: Take apart an old appliance and invent something to solve a problem.

Camp fee is $205. If you register by March 31, cost is $185. Three or more siblings receive a $40 discount.. The camp fee includes daily snacks, materials, and a T-shirt. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Students must bring their own lunches.
