Inclement Weather and Emergency Closures
The safety of our students, families, faculty, and staff is our top priority. In the event of inclement weather or an emergency that requires the University School of Jackson to close campus, families will be notified as quickly as possible through multiple communication channels.
School Closing Notifications
When a school closure is necessary, USJ will communicate updates through:
-
Telephone and text messaging via our Finalsite notification system
-
School website and official social media channels
-
Local radio and television stations
The following media outlets serve as sources for USJ announcements:
-
Radio: 101.5 FM (WNWS)
-
Television: WBBJ, Channel 7
During periods of severe weather, including tornado alerts, USJ monitors the countywide warning system and will make decisions with student and community safety in mind.
Campus Access During Closures
When the University School of Jackson is closed due to inclement weather or an emergency, the campus is closed to all students, families, and visitors. For safety reasons, no one is permitted on campus during a closure, unless explicitly authorized by the school.
This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Recreational use of campus grounds
-
Use of athletic fields, tracks, or trails
-
Operation of ATVs, four-wheelers, motorcycles, or similar vehicles
Campus closures are implemented to protect individuals from hazardous conditions and to prevent damage to school property.
Policy Concerning Motorized Vehicles on USJ Grounds
To ensure the safety of individuals and preserve the quality and condition of our campus facilities, the following policies apply at all times, including evenings, weekends, summers, and during school closures:
-
Four-wheelers, ATVs, and motorcycles of any type may not be operated on the USJ campus, except on paved roads when explicitly authorized by the school.
-
Golf carts may be operated only by responsible adults and solely for school-related purposes such as transportation, delivery of materials, or approved volunteer activities. Recreational use of golf carts is not permitted.
-
Children are not permitted to operate golf carts or ATVs at any time on any portion of the USJ campus, whether students or non-students.
-
Adult golf cart operators may not drive on athletic fields, practice fields, the track, or cross-country trails.
-
Adult operators assume all risk for injury or property damage associated with golf cart use.
The purpose of this policy is to protect the safety of our community, maintain the integrity of our facilities, and preserve our campus for future generations of USJ students and families.
