Safety & Security

School safety comes first. Before the first book is opened or ball is bounced, we must ensure that our students and teachers are cared for and all return home at the end of the day. While no plan is foolproof, USJ is commitment to keeping us secure while at school.

Our campus has been upgraded over the past few years, not just with visible gates, but with additional cameras, automated locking systems, and keycard entry points. Our updated security procedures recently underwent an audit by local law enforcement, and all faculty and staff attended training led by the FBI Behavior Analysis Unit on the topic of identifying students who may be at risk to other students, themselves, or the school as a whole.

We also have increased medical infrastructure and first aid training in pursuing the identification of a “heart-safe school.” We regularly conduct intruder drills that involve all students in both classroom buildings. Most importantly, our teachers and administration are committed to the consistent application of improved protocols that include basic fundamentals such as keeping doors locked.

In the Fall of 2023, USJ welcomed two new security officers to our staff. Our officers patrol our campus regularly throughout the day and are committed to keeping our USJ family safe while on the USJ campus.
