Advanced Placement Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) courses provide Upper School students with the opportunity to engage in rigorous, college-level academic work while still in high school. These courses are designed for motivated students who are eager to challenge themselves, deepen their understanding of specific subjects, and prepare for the expectations of college and beyond.

USJ offers more than 21 Advanced Placement courses taught in person by our experienced faculty, giving students the opportunity to pursue rigorous academic challenges while receiving the individualized support that helps them succeed. These courses allow students to explore subjects in greater depth while strengthening the analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills essential for college success.

Students work closely with faculty and college advisors to determine an appropriate and balanced AP course load that supports both academic growth and overall well-being. Thoughtful planning ensures that each student’s schedule aligns with their interests, strengths, and college aspirations.

At the conclusion of each course, students have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement exam. Exams are scored on a scale of 1–5, and many colleges and universities award credit or advanced placement for qualifying scores. Families are encouraged to review the AP credit policies of individual colleges and universities for specific requirements.
